Thinking Day

February 8, 2009

Duly chastised by my colleague Roger Ramirez…”Hey Dude, where’s the blog posts?” shook me out of my doldrums and I’m back in the saddle again with the blog.

Yesterday was Girl Scout thinking day…as I said to my daughter, “But I thought everyday was supposed to be thinking day”…that got me an eye roll and that exasperated expulsion of air that leaves no doubt you’ve said something stupid…once again. (more…)

Jon the Painter

January 27, 2009

That sounds almost biblical! Monday morning I set off for North Walpole, NH to meet up with Jon McAuliffe. Jon’s an artist, managing to do portraits – of the painted variety not photographic variety – for a living. Jon also happened to be selling a Mac G5 that I was needing – one of those must have been fate connections that you can make on Craigs List where he had advertised the machine. (more…)

Recovery!

January 21, 2009

Fedex brought me the nicest present today – my old harddrive and a spare I had sent in. On the spare was the recovery of my old. corrupted drive. Seems like everything but my applications was recovered – it will be a bit of time before I really know, but the best part was the folder of images from the jazz and tap odyssey were there! Bridal Show

January 11, 2009

Today was the  bridal show in Portsmouth, NH sponsored by The Bay, 98.7 FM (http://www.987thebay.com) – and it was a testament to the hardy nature of Maine and New Hampshire brides ( and a few grooms too) – an overnight storm dumped a fresh half foot of snow on top of the ice-covered streets and walks. Herrera family photos

December 17, 2008

When we moved to New Hampshire from Oregon – with a four year rest stop in Minnesota – we left some very close friends. One of them was the Herrera family. Angela and my wife were members of the “Cruncy Granola Moms” ( not their real name!) a group of young mothers who wanted to get together and talk about alternative ways to raise happy and healthy children. First place!

December 13, 2008

I’ve been at the photography game a long time, and I have won enough awards over the years that I thought I was over the rush of awards. The Wedding Photojournalists Association ( WPJA) – a group I am a member of – has 4 contests a year, drawing judges from some mighty lofty places – often pulitzer prize winning photographers, some of the best shooters in the world. Birthday Girl

December 9, 2008

On those days when I get out of bed a little stiff or sore I wonder what it is that keeps me young. I don’t have to think about that very long – my daughter is the fountain of youth. Its hard to believe, but she turned 12 tonight. I set up a couple of small strobes and did a portrait at the moment of birth – 9:11PM. If Eliza looks a bit familiar, that’s also her on the top of the blog – spinning in the breeze along a ridge in Tuttle Swamp. (more…)
