I met Katie at the vet where I take my dog. Sid ( the dog) was a cute puppy in for his first set of shots and Katie was swept away! We talked and when I found out that she had a boyfriend, I popped the question: ” Are you guys thinking about getting married? Do you have a photographer? This weekend Roger Ramirez ( my colleague at Chariot Photo – www.chariotphoto.com -) and I were on New Hampshire’s Squam Lake shooting Meridith and Ben’s wedding – how else can it be described except for incredible! After a week’s worth of cold rain, the weather broke Saturday morning – the sun shone, the temperature rose…and the mosquitos and black flies were caught unaware, so no bug issues to complicate an outdoor wedding. Over the past couple of days I’ve been doing some really tight portraits – all available light because the light has been really nice – and experimenting with hard look versus soft look.
Two models – one new, that’s my friend Ron in Franklin. NH and one young…but an old model. I’m so lucky to have Eliza always ( OK, almost always) ready and willing to let me photograph her. (more…)
After a few days of unseasonably hot weather, Saturday brought a perfect day – no humidity, temperatures in the low ’70’s – one of those perfect late May in New England days. And for Steph and Tucker the day couldn’t have been better – they got married! (more…)
It’s been a labor of love – and sweat – and frustration – and major help from friends old and new…but the new website is finally live.
I started talking about doing a new site in the fall with the goal of being online with it by the end of the year. I was still talking about it in January, February, March…you get the drift. It’s tough being 12, getting dragged around with your parents as they have adult fun – which often consists of digging through stuff, junk, and other assorted treasures in thrift stores and people’s barns.
The nice thing about bored is that it lends itself to a variety of photos that are different than the average picture of your kid smiling for the camera. The only tough parts are not being able to light the photos…and not getting caught! (more…)
My search for locations for the empty spaces project found a mother lode this weekend – gaining access to an old knitting mill in North-Central New Hampshire. The day was spent more just looking and planning than actual shooting, but it was incredibly fruitful nonetheless. (more…)
A few months ago there was a story about me in the local newspapers – I had been named the 2008 Innovative Artist by ArtWorks NH. I was taken totally by surprise – and felt really honored. Not long after I was contacted by a person who had seen the article and wanted to know if I would be interested in doing some photos of her son in the Spring. (more…)
One of the things I like best ( and there’s plenty to like) about being a photographer is the fact that when you set out to photograph one thing you often end up with an unexpected treat if you’re not so locked into your preconceived notion of the outcome. Maybe that’s why so many photographers are accused of being cases of arrested development! (more…)
Last week I traveled to Washington, DC to photograph the installation of four chandeliers in the US Senate caucus room. What an amazing assignment – witnessing a crew of 8 people from Acu-Bright working like a well-oiled machine, working with confidence even while using pipe wrenches above delicate glass structures, swaying in the air as they worked some 40 feet above the floor. All the while being surrounded by the history and power that is in the room. (more…)
